Data analysis within the Ameritas Group Division.

Ameritas Life Insurance Corp is seeking a Data Analyst to drive the business by leading and managing the design, development and deployment of data solutions to meet Group Division goals and objectives.

Essential Job Functions

The incumbent analyzes, recommends and implements data and business solutions in support of the goals and business objectives of the Group Division. The incumbent works closely with many functions within the Group Division as well as IT associates and processes. Specifically, the essential functions of this position include:


* Build a solid foundation of analytical practices including description and inferential statistics.
* Design, develop, and implement data mining techniques to leverage data for business decisions.
* Work with external data sets to enrich internal data stores for analytics based projects.
* Design, develop, and implement analytics projects using SAS or other appropriate language.
* Leverage new technologies and techniques to analyze data and optimize algorithms.
* Participates in the evaluation and acquisition of tools needed to access, secure and maintain the data.
* Assists in the evaluation of application packages by defining business data views and how they are supported by the package(s).

Visualizations / Reporting

* Design, develop, and implement quality business intelligence reports, dashboards, and visualizations.
* Use IT and Business toolsets effectively to extract data for business and analytical purposes.
* Solid understanding of SQL, Business Intelligence and visualizations toolset and best practices.
* Actively develops and encourages the use of "Best Practices" in the use of data and data access tools.
* Designs and develops training for end users.

Business Analysis

* Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) of data assets.
* Manage delivery of data driven solutions for the division on time, as promised.
* Management and reporting from production systems and data stores.
* Develop business process and systems knowledge in other areas of Group as directed.
* Develops business-oriented meta data definitions.
* Works with Senior Data Analyst to identify, understand and prioritize user information requirements.

Data warehouse

* Monitor, report, and correct data quality issues identified in the data.
* Understand the fundamentals of data structures, modeling, acquisition, and maintenance applied to data repositories.
* Develop business process and systems knowledge in other areas of Group as directed.

Key Stakeholder Support

* Proactive role.
* Support ALIC production planning through data content delivery and development.
* Actively works to develop ongoing partnership with user areas, other key stakeholders include Group Division senior management and IT.


* Bachelors degree required, Analytical or Technical degree preferred
* 0-2 years related experience
* Graduate degree or course work desired
* Solid foundation of descriptive and inferential statistics preferred
* Experience in the application of statistical methods and models preferred
* Experience in process optimization and data mining algorithms desired
* Solid knowledge of SQL, Query, Reporting and OLAP languages and tools desired
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
* Strong interpersonal skills.
* Strong written and oral communication skills
* Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff
* Working knowledge of the insurance industry, its operations and its terminology preferred
* Ability to translate business needs into data analysis and reporting solutions
* Associate is expected to pursue ongoing education as outlined in annual performance plan
* Demonstrates strong analytic abilities and strong organizational skills
