Investment Accounting Manager

The Investment Accounting Manager will provide management support and oversight for all aspects of operations, accounting, internal controls and reporting activities for the various investment asset classes within the general account including fixed assets, commercial mortgage loans, real estate and other invested assets.

Essential Functions

* Review work of direct reports to ensure the integrity of accounting records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with GAAP and Statutory (for general account assets)
* Demonstrate a detailed understanding of applicable GAAP to ensure compliance with technical accounting policies and assist with the implementation of new technical accounting policies
* Apply management skills to identify and implement efficiencies and process improvements
* Complete accounting projects and ad hoc requests as assigned
* Develop and maintain positive and collaborative relations with portfolio managers and other departments across the organization
* Research, interpret and provide timely variance explanations to the financial statements, as needed, while consistently meeting close schedule expectations
* Set priorities to meet deadlines; develop plans to meet short-term & long-term objectives
* Ensure investment area adheres to regulatory and Financial audit requirements including training and testing
* Communicate with state examiners, external auditors and third-party vendors as needed


* Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Master's is preferred.
* 4-7 years relevant work experience. Ideally to include investment accounting, financial statement preparation, regulatory reporting and/or public accounting.
* CPA or other Accounting/Investment certifications preferred

Knowledge of US GAAP and/or STAT guidance required
* Experience in managing a team required
* Strong analytical, operational, organizational and problem-solving skills
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
