Reports to:   Director of Food Safety and Quality

Supervises:  Plant Quality Lead, Lead Quality Inspector, Plant Quality Technicians, Quality Inspectors - Receiving

Purpose:

Ensure the quality assurance and quality control teams operate safely, efficiently, and meet all quality standards; lead the development of a food safety and quality focused culture throughout the organization; craft, train and reinforce standard operating procedures; perform and audit quality-related practices and procedures; secure and maintain strong relationships with manufacturers and vendors.

Requirements:                                                   

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Five years of quality control experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience implementing Quality Management Systems, FSMA – Preventive Controls, cGMPs, and SQF or other GFSI accepted scheme desired
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license

  • Computer skills (MS Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Ability to work with hay-based products
  • Ability to stand, walk and bend for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Some travel may be required, up to 25%.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide quality leadership throughout the company.
  • Coordinate facility contracted services such as lab testing, pest control, etc.
  • Participate in establishing facility policies, operating procedures, and goals.
  • Participate in customer, regulatory, and third-party facility audits.
  • Acts as SQF (Safe Quality Food Institute) Practitioner to oversee the development, implementation, review, and maintenance of the SQF System.
  • Act as Oxbow’s PCQI/HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) Coordinator.
  • Develop and approve Facility Food Safety Plan.
  • Acts as back-up to Plant Quality and Quality Inspectors during absences. 
  • Lead Facility Food Safety Team and conduct Food Safety Team meetings.
  • Document, investigate and communicate all cases of nonconforming product, per standard procedures.
  • Periodically audit internal practices/facilities and supplier practices/facilities to ensure compliance with documented procedures, product specifications, and quality standards.
  • Collect samples of key ingredients, goods-in-process, and finished goods, ensuring proper handling, labeling, storage and documentation of samples per the retention standard operating procedure.
  • Submit samples for routine and non-routine testing, maintain a current record of all testing results, and monitor product test results, identifying trends and patterns; investigate noncompliant or questionable results.
  • Perform supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company’s policies and applicable laws for all direct reports.  Responsibilities include planning, assigning and directing work, coaching, appraising performance, training, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
  • Ensure staff are properly trained and supervised to follow food safety procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Enhance the reputation of Oxbow Animal Health and the Food Safety and Quality department by accepting ownership for achieving outstanding results and taking initiative to recommend extensions and improvements of quality-related activities throughout the organization, as well as communicating with managers and staff about quality expectations and issues.
  • Clearly communicate findings, recommendations and procedures, both orally and in written form.
  • Perform all tasks assigned by the supervisor, while following all company, safety, and quality policies and procedures.
