Ameritas Life Insurance Corp is seeking a Principal Software Developer to drive towards transformational change as the Group Open Systems team is maturing TDD, secure, and best practice code standards, CI/CD, and agility through scrum. Support, extend, and maintain a variety of products for the group dental, vision, and hearing insurance lines of business at Ameritas. The team is primarily .NET oriented with assets in Spring, Java, and an emerging presence in AWS.

The Principle role will play a critical function in continuing this evolution while also continuing to maintain the health and support of existing systems as well as meeting existing project deadlines and deliverables. This is a hands-on technical leadership role that is capable of leading by example, mentoring other developers, and leading design and implementation of IT strategy. Ability to clearly communicate and collaborate within team and across functional areas is a must.

Essential Job Functions

* Responsible for providing the highest level of technical leadership; advise, consult, participate, and/or lead application prototypes and proof of concepts in support of application development projects.
* Leverage technology advances through tactical and strategic technology solutions, reference architectures, frameworks, and components.
* Exhibits strong skills in collaboration, influencing, and mentoring other team members in the listed technologies.
* Takes on other roles in development, testing, and automation as needed to support the team in meeting sprint and product goals.
* Participates in the development of improved and innovative ways to utilize current system software, application system development and programming productivity aids, debugging, and test tools.
* Investigates and recommends new methods, procedures, tools, and technologies.
* Performs at a high level of technical capability while developing or maintaining application systems within a self-organizing and self-managing environment.
* Collaborates with IT management, EA, BA and team members and to evaluate, design, and provide technical solutions that support the ongoing development of the product.
* Documents all key processes to further drive improved team performance. Shares knowledge and champions best practices across the team and enterprise.
* Dedicated to continuous improvement and learning.


* 8+ years of .NET, .NET Core expertise with solid foundation in modern C# required
* Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems with strong debugging skills required in Windows services, WCF, WebApi, and Web required
* Automated testing and logging using Nunit, Nlog, or similar frameworks required
* Expert understanding of dependency injection/IOC for both .NET and .NET core required
* Fundamental understanding of REST including documentation with swagger/open API, and integration testing tools required
* Deep understanding of SOLID principles, clean code practices, TDD, common design patterns, and OWASP best practices required
* Working knowledge of OAUTH, MFA, and secure code practices required
* Working knowledge of modern Dev/Ops practices required
* Working knowledge of modern web practices html5, JavaScript, css3, ASP.NET MVC and ASP.NET Core required. React framework and Node.js experience desired.
* Ability to work across technologies stacks and quickly add value with emergent or acquired technologies required
* Working knowledge of Gitflow required
* Working knowledge in Springboot and Springbatch desired
* Working knowledge of Java desired
* Background in Windows Server Administration desired
* Working knowledge of Docker desired
* Working knowledge of Jenkins, UCD, Nuget, Nexus, and other dev-ops tools desired
* Working knowledge of PowerShell desired
* Working knowledge of Attlasian collaboration tools desired
