The General Day to Day

The Software Engineer - ETL (SE-E) is responsible for software development tasks involving data exchange with Phynd customers. Common objectives include implementing new projects, maintaining existing projects, and improving processes, tools, and algorithms. The SE-E is a key stakeholder in improvements in data integration automation and tools and is strongly encouraged to provide feedback and ideas about how the day-to-day work can be simplified, streamlined, or otherwise improved.

An essential part of the Data Management Team (DMT), the SE-E is a driving force for improving internal documentation, coding standards, and training, for the team and helping to pave the way for the further growth of the team.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Comfortable with complex SQL select queries including functionality such as:
    o      Aggregation Functions
    o      Windowing Functions
    o      Multi-column joins
    o    Some Query Performance Tuning
    •Familiar with best practices regarding SQL insert/update development, including
    o    Transaction commit/rollback
    o    Limiting rowsets
    o    Temp table use
    o    Some Query Performance Tuning
    •Well practiced with a scripting language, including
    o    Organized design
    o    Splitting strings
    o    Looping
    o    Conditional logic
    •Familiar with unit and integration testing concepts
    •Familiarity with Mirth or other ETL tools (Cloverleaf, Corepoint, BizTalk, SSIS)
    •Practiced with RESTful API architectures
    •Well practiced with code versioning tools such as Git, SVN, or Mercurial
    •Experienced with Amazon Web Services, or similar cloud service provider
    •Experienced with Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) tools (Rally, Jira, TFS)
    •Experienced working for or with smaller, rapidly growing companies and understand the unique challenges of this environment
    •A systematic and methodical thinker with a demonstrated history of strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    •Able to summarize technical details into a non-technical summary
    •Able to communicate well with client-facing teams
    •Able to train and mentor other team

Qualifications

  • A BS in Computer Science
  • 4-6 years of experience with ETL Processes and data integration
  • Proficiency with MySQL including the ability to discover tables, columns, and joins
    •Proficiency with javascript
    •A strong understanding of object-oriented programming
    •Skill with writing reusable libraries
    •Familiarity with various design and architectural patterns
    •Knowledge of concurrency patterns
    •A knack for writing clean, readable, and easily maintainable code
    •Understanding of fundamental design principles for building a scalable application
    •Familiarity with Healthcare data, especially Provider, Group, and Plan data
    •Experience in the Healthcare industry
    •Experience working with a distributed development team
