Ameritas has an opening for an Actuary who will serve on our model development team as our Model Architect. This position will be responsible for ensuring quality development and maintenance for Corporate Actuarial models. The position will be responsible for establishing sound model structure, building models that support our business needs by publishing and enforcing coding standards within Prophet and its associated inputs and outputs. Key goals will be model quality, maintainability, scalability and technical performance. The position works with Corporate Actuarial, Product actuarial areas, and IT to support the Prophet software suite. Work is performed for all Ameritas insurance companies and includes all individual and retirement plan products.

Essential Functions:

Serve as architect for the model structure and standards for Ameritas Prophet models.

* Oversee model Prophet and DCS development, testing, and maintenance to ensure structural and calculation integrity, building models that can be used for various applications including

* Regulatory requirements
* Financial reporting
* Business decisions
* Develop best practices for model development, including enhanced acceptance criteria, peer review, and testing processes, including regression testing

* Includes maintenance and enforcement of modeling standards documentation.
* Maintain a current code base in the Prophet libraries
* Respond to requests for model information from actuaries, accountants, auditors, management and other associates, as well as external stakeholders, providing actuarial analysis where appropriate
* Participate in the development and maintenance of Model Governance Policies and Procedures
* Work with IT to:

* Establish data handling processes for Prophet models to ensure consistency and minimal manual interventions
* Coordinate version control for Prophet models and modeling assumptions in Prophet Enterprise and Assumption Manager
* Ensure compliance with security administration for software access for the Prophet software.
* Ensure full support of modeling software, including help desk, infrastructure, installations, software evaluations, and other associated tasks
* Establish performance benchmarks to improve model performance
* Keep Prophet infrastructure current with vendor software updates
* With the model validation actuaries, ensure that models have been validated to input systems and financial reporting
* Participate in the maintenance of model documentation
* Stay educated on current modeling best practices, and performance improvement techniques

Required Knowledge and Skills:

* Associate or Fellow of the Society of Actuaries designation. Member of the American Academy of Actuaries
* Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or a related field
* 2-4+ years of actuarial modeling experience, with Prophet software
* Knowledge of standards and best practices within the context of Model Audit Rule, Sarbanes-Oxley, and/or IT processes
* Advanced knowledge of insurance products and concepts, actuarial theory and techniques, and regulation of the insurance industry
* Strong attention to detail
* Disciplined approach to compliance
* Ability to clearly and thoroughly document assumptions, decisions, processes and other work performed
* Change leadership skills
* Extensive knowledge of individual life, annuity, disability income and/or retirement plans products preferred, including fixed, variable and equity indexed products
* Management and/or project management experience preferred
* Understanding of advanced mathematical and statistical concepts
* Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
* Strong analytical, problem solving, written and oral communication, and organizational skills
* Experience with Microsoft Office
* Ability to multi-task and switch back and forth between projects as needed
* Willingness to learn new software tools and packages
