We're looking for an Engineer with React and React Native experience for the Uniform Design System team. As an engineer on this team, you'll spend most of your time helping Product Team members build reliable, accessible, and beautiful front-end features easily and more efficiently. This responsibility involves building the components and writing the documentation that supports teams as they use Uniform.

You Are

  • Passionate about design. You are creative by nature and have a firm understanding of design fundamentals and theory. You have worked closely with designers or have been the designer in projects you’ve worked on.
  • Experienced in React and knowledgeable in React Native. You have worked extensively with React and are familiar with its tools, upgrade process and have a firm understanding of Hooks. You also have experience with React Native and are familiar with its tools and upgrade process.
  • Experienced developing in the front end. You have deep knowledge writing scalable and maintainable CSS, experience working with new CSS features like custom properties and familiarity with TypeScript.
  • An advocate for accessibility. You are passionate about making what you build accessible. You have an understanding of WCAG accessibility guidelines, WAI-ARIA and a11y compliance and know which tools to use to ensure a great experience for all.
  • Comfortable working in the back-end. You know that successful front-end implementations rely on solid back-end APIs and are willing to get your hands dirty to submit changes to those systems. You feel confident that working with C# REST-based and GraphQL back-ends is not a problem.
  • A systems thinker. You take a holistic approach to solving individual problems and how they impact the product team. You understand how a single problem works within the larger context of the design system to reinforce or challenge it. Technically, you're familiar with SemVer, managing and publishing releases and tools like Yarn.
  • A mentor at heart. You find mentoring others rewarding so seek out opportunities to level up others in your area of expertise.
  • Willing to learn. You have solid engineering skills but are always willing to dive into specific areas to gain added expertise to be successful in your role.
  • Dedicated to delivering quality work. You want your team to get things done and done well and are willing to wear many hats to make this happen.
  • Able to handle interruptions. Unplanned work to squash impediments and fix bugs will happen. You understand this and can work effectively with your team and stakeholders to prioritize this work appropriately while taking sprint commitments into consideration.

You Will

  • Extend and maintain Hudl's design system, Uniform. To support the product team building any customer-facing feature, you will be building and maintaining the Uniform design system React and React Native components and styles. To ensure our products are reliable, well-maintained and easy to use, you'll think carefully about how each component or pattern is built, documented and used, including the designer and developer experience.
  • Serve as a resource and consultant to teams using the design system. With your knowledge of React and the design system, you will support teams working in the front end by answering questions, reviewing pull requests, design reviews, and contribution requests.
  • Be a systems advocate. You know there are challenges when enforcing and adopting a design system, and understand how to win over teams by championing it. Collaborate with others to challenge it and contribute improvements.
  • Be a cross-functional member of your team. Uniform is currently a very small team who self-manage their work. You will work with other team members to plan, design, develop, test and ship the work you do.
  • Help plan Hudl's front-end roadmap. Our philosophy is to radically simplify our front end while dramatically improving our designer and developer experience. Help us to identify opportunities and prioritize them.

We Will

  • Treat you like an adult. It’s all about a healthy work-life balance. We’ll trust you to get work done and take a break when you need it. (Hello, unlimited vacation policy!)
  • Give you what you need. We’ll supply the environment and tools for success, allowing you to focus on professional growth and career development.
  • Challenge you. You'll be surrounded by people equally committed to the company's success, allowing for constant collaboration.
  • Reward you. A strong perks package and office benefits.
