OK, let’s be honest: sometimes Employee Relations gets a bad rap. But like most things we’re aiming to do here on the Toast People team, we’re committed to bucking the trend. We are looking for a People Success Generalist (aka HR Generalist) to join the People team at Toast located in our Omaha office.  This person will be a member of a brand new team and will be a part of building out our employee relations function here at Toast.  


The role will report to the Senior Manager, Employee Relations located in our Chicago office and will have a dotted line to the People Success Partner (our version of an HRBP), Customer Care.  Our Customer Care team provides technical support to our customers.  Customer Care is a critical team at Toast as they are on the front lines with our customers enabling them to leverage all that the Toast products and services have to offer.  This role will be instrumental in ensuring that our Customer Care employees have an amazing employee experience.  This person is responsible for providing people success generalist support to the front line people managers and employees.  The successful person will crave impact, thrive in ambiguity and want to experience a start-up in hyper-growth.         


About this roll

  • Be an ambassador for the Toast culture - helping to ensure a high bar for performance and a trusting, collaborative and fun environment
  • Provides employee relations support to front line managers in the Omaha location including counseling on attendance and performance issues and assisting with the creation of performance improvement plans as well as the effective delivery of those plans 
  • Responsible for ensuring the consistent application of our Customer Care shift & attendance guidelines which includes the training of new managers on the team 
  • Handles all employee investigations including documentation and reporting out to the PSP team and senior leadership
  • Partnering with the PSP, Customer Care proactively manages accommodations & leaves of absences ensuring appropriate application of our leave programs as well as federal and state laws
  • Helps drive manager effectiveness by partnering with the PSP team in the administration of various programs and enablement offerings
  • Partnering with the PSP team, ensure programs and policies are compliant with local laws and regulations
  • Partnering with the Omaha Workplace Experience coordinator, ensures a positive and engaging workplace environment and culture 
  • Conducts exit interviews and tracks trends regarding attrition


Do you have the right ingredients? 

  • A minimum of 3 years of employee relations/HR generalist experience
  • Basic knowledge of HR disciplines such as employment, performance management and employee engagement
  • Interest in developing your HR and people-centric acumen. As Toast and the People & Culture team evolves, build your skillset and become even stronger in your strength areas (than you already are).
  • Knowledge of local HR policies and employment laws a plus
  • Solid communication skills 
  • You’re empathetic, compassionate, and human
  • You’re objective, fair, and compliant with local and federal  laws
  • Demonstrated experience learning and thriving in a constantly changing environment
  • Experience working with confidential data
  • Desire and enthusiasm for operating in the gray
