Mutual of Omaha's Backend Engineers (Serverless / TypeScript / NodeJS) are building the next-generation platform for interacting with our customers.  We are looking for engineers who are passionate about building cloud centric, modern solutions. In this role, you will integrate a combination of internally built and vendor-based applications into an event-driven architecture that achieves our program's ambitions.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Contribute towards the backend development, building cloud-native services using NodeJS and Typescript on AWS Serverless technologies.
  • Use patterns and leverage modern frameworks to build, maintain, and implement our solutions
  • Gain knowledge of various development approaches and assisting with the design of ground-up projects and enhancements
  • Occasionally play multiple roles (e.g. individual contributor, lead, teacher, mentor)
  • Get to know the supported business area(s), have an awareness of related objectives and challenges
  • Communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Evaluate options and the performance tradeoffs / benefits
  • Focus on accuracy and quality, while continuing to deliver code

This posting reflects the Engineer I essential functions, qualifications, and physical requirements. The Engineer II and Engineer III have variable essential functions and qualifications. Competency and skill set will determine level of placement within the posted job family.

ABOUT YOU:

  • Professionally developed and implemented over the last two or more years with:
    • AWS services common to serverless architectures (AWS Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, IAM, etc.)
    • Built REST APIs and other common application architectures on AWS services
    • Built REST APIs and other back-ends in the Node.js runtime
    • Backend applications with JavaScript, TypeScript, and Node.js
    • Automated unit and integration tests
    • Data modeling and architecture in NoSQL environment
  • Develops unit tests and uses version control
  • Understands the Agile mindset and iterative development process
  • Adheres to coding quality standards
  • Steers productive team communication and collaboration on problem solving
  • Positively impacts team success by multi-tasking and adapting to priority changes
  • Driven to pick-up new tech through research and investigation
  • You:

VALUABLE EXPERIENCE:

  • Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), Test Driven Development (TDD), Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
  • Graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, a related degree or equivalent work experience

  • Pay is commensurate with experience
